Newly restored and available for the first time on DVD, Albert Lamorisse s exquisite The Red Balloon remains one of the most beloved children s films of all time. In this deceptively simple, nearly wordless tale, a young boy discovers a stray balloon, which seems to have a mind of its own, on the streets of Paris. The two become inseparable, yet the world s harsh realities finally interfere. With its glorious palette and allegorical purity, the Academy Award winning The Red Balloon has enchanted movie lovers, young and old, for generations.

The video is very well done, with great footage of a wide variety of new and vintage John Deere tractors and implements. Learn about a variety of historic "Johnny Popper" 2-cylinder tractors (probably our favorite part of the video). Also see the newest 4-wheel drive BIG tractors. John Deere construction equipment is also shown, with a detailed segment on excavators (a.k.a. "diggers"). Also includes the "Buck" (John Deere ATV) and "Gator" (basically a golf cart for the farm). Interspersed throughout the video are catchy tunes with which you will find yourself singing along, as well as humorous clips that run in reverse...see a combine spit the harvest back out, a tractor "un-plow" a field, and more.

Family Time is Ziggy Marley s third solo album and first full-length
offering especially for children and families. Marley produced the
album with legendary producer Don Was, known for his Grammy®-winning
work with such artists as Bonnie Raitt as well as with his own
hit-making group, Was (Not Was). With original songs newly-composed by
Marley himself, the album features a variety of family and friends as
guests including Rita Marley (Ziggy s mother), Cedella Marley (sister),
Judah Marley (daughter), Paul Simon, Jack Johnson, Willie Nelson, Toots
Hibberts (of Toots and the Maytals), Elizabeth Mitchell, Laurie
Berkner, Paula Fuga and two stories narrated by Jamie Lee Curtis.
Growing up music was an important part of my childhood, Marley says. I
see it being just as important in my children and all children growth
and development. Music helps children to grow with open minds and open
hearts and this is my message. This record represents my daily family
life and is inspired by my three-year-old daughter Judah and baby
Gideon. It was a joy to make and opened up new avenues in my
creativity. Family Time is for all families and especially the world
family.
Ziggy has contributed to a variety of children s
programming including Nick Jr. s Dora the Explorer, the PBS children s
show Arthur, and the animated film Shark Tale, in which he played the
character of Bernie the Jamaican jellyfish and re-recorded his father s
Three Little Birds with Sean Paul and his brother Stephen Marley for
the soundtrack.

Music, food and good times just seem to go together. This summer, Putumayo Kids celebrates the joys of eating with a brand new, globe-trotting CD from their award-winning children's Playground series. To be released on July 28th, just in time to enhance summer get-togethers, Picnic Playground serves up a colorful basket full of tasty musical treats. Picnic Playground provides a veritable feast of international songs about food, cooking and healthy eating in a global gumbo of musical styles and languages. American artist Jay Mankita's opening song "Eat Like a Rainbow" sets the tone for the album, and the delectable songs that follow from Australia, Cuba, Denmark, France, Germany, Canada and Trinidad add to the exuberant musical smörgåsbord. These fun, upbeat songs will help get kids moving and dancing to the rhythms. The artists on Picnic Playground sing so joyously about delicious food that you can almost taste it. Try Jose Conde's wonderful "Bolitas de Arroz con Pollo," chomp your way through Rhythm Child's "Bowl of Cherries" and taste the tropical flavors of Asheba's Caribbean "Ice Cream." Before you go, finish off the picnic with milk and cookies, courtesy of Donikkl's song "Milch" and Maggie G's "Let's Bake Cookies".
Picnic Playground includes liner notes in three languages, English, French and Spanish, a child-friendly overview of the foods mentioned in the songs, as well as two recipes showing how to "Eat Like A Rainbow" by child nutritionist Barbara Storper, founder of FoodPlay. A portion of Putumayo's proceeds from the sale of Picnic Playground will be donated to Vitamin Angels, providing essential nutrients to children in the U.S. and around the world.
Bernstein's comments and his way of narrating the first two pieces (Carnival of the Animals and Peter and the Wolf) was a wonderful way to add to this grand music. I was surprised by his free approach to the music. If you want to hear more of him, Copland's Second Hurricane has him narrating. It's not that great musically though (the Copland). The Britten piece is a favorite for the Children's Special on my local radio station, WGMS 103.5 in DC, along with the other two. Yes, this is a good CD to buy for you and your children. It also features a couple of soon to be hit players such as the acclaimed Paula Robison on the flute. Bernstein had good tastes when it came to picking musicians who are all between the age of 13-23.
