The Kobo Switch: What it means for Google eBooks

Kobo

Red Balloon Bookshop is excited to welcome Kobo as our official eBook provider!

Kobo offers over 3 million eBook titles - including best sellers, hidden gems, Indie Next List great reads, and other recommendations - that can be downloaded instantly over Wi Fi, making it the ultimate in convenience.  Kobo eBooks are cross compatible with other devices.  This means you can read Kobo eBooks on your Nook, Sony Reader, other ereaders, or on devices that support one of Kobo's many apps.

What does this mean for Google eBooks?

Google's eBook partnership with indie bookstores has ended, so Red Balloon will only be carrying Kobo eBooks as of 11/21/12.

If you have previously purchased Google eBooks from Red Balloon, your eBooks are still available on Google Play (click here to sign in). You will continue to be able to access your eBooks via your Google account.

However, the IndieBound Reader app was designed specifically to interface with Google eBooks and will no longer be supported after January 2013. If desired, you can load your Google eBooks to a new Kobo device using Adobe Digital Editions. Please see this video, produced by Google, for a step-by-step guide to transferring your Google eBooks to your new Kobo eReader.

To purchase new eBooks from Red Balloon, customers must create a new account with Kobo.  Click here to set up a new account!

Please call the store if you have any questions.  Thank you!
