As a collector myself, I loved the way the author used Hector's collecting of acorns as an illustration of the ways museums and libraries get started. These institutions contain all sorts of treasures for many different people to enjoy. In the end, a collection like Hector's is equally important, even if only enjoyed by one person. Hector sees beauty and imagination in acorns. His classmates have different collections they find interesting and valuable. It's not hoarding, it's collecting! And this story is a lovely way to illustrate that. -- Susan (RBB Staff)
