Native American children are still dramatically underrepresented in children's literature. According to Cooperative Children's Book Center at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, of all of the childrens's book released in 2018, only 1% featured Native American/First Nations characters (illustrated here by David Huyck, in consultation with St. Kate professor Sarah Park Dahlen). Still less of those books are by Native American authors. In hopes of encouraging people to look more carefully for books with accurate representation about Native kids (and adults), here are some #ownvoices books by Native authors.
